NELM: Average at 6.5

Telescope: 22” f/4.0 reflector sitting on a Crossbow EQT-200 equatorial platform
Eyepieces (not all are used):  24mm Panoptic (finder eyepiece), 16, 10, 6 and 4mm ZAO-II’s, 12.5, 9, 7 and 5mm BGO, 12, 10, 8, and 6mm Delos, and TMB 1.8x ED Barlow.

Most images are from the observing guides (negative images), otherwise from PanSTARRS.


Note: This page was added on June 2026 as I am catching up on the ORs for half of 2013 and all of 2014.  At some point, I'll find a way to incorporate my ORs (mid 80s to 2008) from a spreadsheet into an acceptable format.



NGC 6211 small galaxy group (16 41 28  +57 47 01)  4 galaxies


22" at 328 and 383x - string of four galaxies in an NNW-SSE line 8.7' long.
NGC 6211: Bright round glow with diffuse edges. Brighter center.
NGC 6213: Considerably bright 2:1 elongated glow. Somewhat brighter center. PA = 135.    2.2' NNE of N6211.
MCG+10-24-32: Considerably faint, 2:1 elongated, small, even surface brightness glow with a slightly brighter center. Defined edges.  2.3' NNE of N6211.  PA = 150
MCG+10-24-34: Considerably faint 2:1 even surface brightness glow with a brighter center. PA = 20.  Lies 3.7' NNE of MCG+10-24-32.




NGC 6338 Group (17 15 23  +57 24 45)  7 galaxies

22" at 230, 28,7 and 383x - Group of 7 galaxies with one bright elliptical in a 10' field.
NGC 6338: Bright 4:3 elongated glow with diffuse edges. Much brighter center. PA = 0
NGC 6345: Considerably bright 3:1 elongated glow with defined edges. Slightly brighter center. PA = 150. Lies 3.6' slightly east of due south of N6338.
NGC 6346: Considerably bright, slightly elongated glow with a slightly brighter center. PA = 90.  Lies 1.6' south on N 6345
MCG+10-24-117: Considerably faint, round, glow with defined edges.  Lies 1.1' due north of N6338.
MCG+10-24-112: Very faint, 2:1 elongated glow. PA = 45.  Lies 2.3' WSW of N6346.
IC 1252: Considerably bright, 2:1 elongated, even surface brightness glow with diffuse edges. PA = 45.  Lies 4.5' SE of N6338.
CGCG 299-63: Faint small, 3:2 elongated glow. PA = 170 and 10" long.  Lies 8.6' SW of N6338.




NGC 6472 group  (17 44 15  +67 37 10)  9 galaxies

22" at 230, 328, and 383x - field of 10 galaxies in a 10' field.
NGC 6472: Considerably bright, 4:3 elongated, even surface brightness glow. PA = 0
NGC 6470: Considerably bright, 3:1 even surface brightness, elongated glow. PA = 10.  Lies 1.3' ESE of N6472.
NGC 6477: Considerably bright, round, even surface brightness glow with defined edges.  Lies 1.5' ESE of N 6470.
NGC 6471: Faint, thin, even surface brightness streak. No central brightening. PA = 10 and 40" long. Lies 2.4' SSE of N6472. PGC 60779: A ery faint, round glow was detected just 25" east. 10" across.
NGC 6463: Considerably bright round glow with defined edges. Slightly brighter center.  Lies 4' WSW of N 6470.
NGC 6456: Considerably faint, round glow with defined edges. 20" across and lies 6' slightly south of due west of N 6463.
CGCG 321-22: Next to a blazing mag 9.4 star. Considerably bright, round glow with defined edges. Lies 10.5' SW of N6463 and 6.6' slightly west of due south of N6456. The star lies just 30" ENE and definitely interferes with the observation.
PGC 2071716: Faint round glow. 15" across. A mag 16 star lies just off the west edge. Lies 4.5' SSW of N6463.
PGC 2702587: Extremely faint, very small, thin streak. PA = 45 and 10" long. Lies 1.6' west of N6456.




NGC 7385 group (22 49 55  +11 36 31)  7 galaxies

22" at 287x - eight galaxies picked up.
NGC 7385: Bright round glow with diffuse edges. Slightly brighter center. A mag 11.4 star lies 1' NW.
NGC 7386: Bright, slightly elongated glow with diffuse edges. PA = 30.  Lies 5.8' NNE of N7385.
NGC 7384: Very faint, round small glow with diffuse edges.   Lies 4' SSW of N7385.
NGC 7383: Faint, slightly elongated glow with slightly brighter center. Defined edges. PA = 0.  Lies 5.5' SW of N7385 and 2.5' west of N7384.
NGC 7389: Faint, round glow with diffuse edges.  Lies 5.8' ESE of N7385.
NGC 7390: Considerably faint, round glow with defined edges.  Lies 7.6' SE of N7385 and 2.2' SSE of N7289.
NGC 7387: Considerably bright, round glow with defined edges. Forms a double galaxy with MCG+2-58-23 located 25" south. Lies 5.8' ENE of N7385.
MCG+2-58-23: Very faint, small, round glow with diffuse edges.




NGC 7436 Group  (22 57 56  +26 09 00)  5 galaxies

22" at 230, 328, and 383x - A group of 5 tightly grouped galaxies in a 3.5' field with a few nearby galaxies.  Note: For some reason, I observed only the central region.
NGC 7436: Considerably bright, round glow with defined edges. Forms a close double galaxy with NGC 7433.
NGC 7436B: Considerably faint, 2:1 elongated glow with diffuse edges. PA = 90. Lies just off the west edge of NGC 7436.
NGC 7435: Considerably faint, round even surface brightness glow with defined edges.  1' SW of N7436.
NGC 7431: Very faint 2:1 elongated even surface brightness glow.  PA = 135.  A mag 14.2 star is just 20" south.  Lies 1.5' ENE of N7436.
MCG+4-54-7: Very faint, very small round glow.  Lies 2.3' due south of N7436.




NGC 383 group (01 07 25  +32 24 47)  12+ galaxies

2 22" at 192x (casual cruise of this really nice chain of galaxies at 192x)
Starting on the north end:
NGC 379: Very bright, 2:1 elongated glow. PA = 0
NGC 380: Bright round glow.  2.3' slightly east of due south of N379.
NGC 383: Very bright round glow.  4.5' SSE of N380.
NGC 382: Bright, compact, round glow with well-defined edges. 30" SSW of N383.
NGC 387: Faint, very small, round glow.  2.1' ESE of N383.
NGC 386: Considerably bright, 4:3 elongated glow with defined edges. PA = 0.  3.3' SSE of N383.
NGC 385: Bright, round glow with somewhat diffuse edges.  2.6' SSW of N386.
NGC 384: Bright, 3:2 elongated glow with defined edges. PA = 45.  1.7' SSW of N385.
NGC 375: Faint, small, round glow with diffuse edges. 5.5' SW of N383.
NGC 373: Considerably bright, small, round glow. Star just off the NW edge.  2.8' SW of N375.
NGC 388: Considerably bright, 3:2 elongated glow. PA = 20.  4.1' east of N385.
PGC 1992625: Very faint, very small round glow.



NGC 329 group (00 58 02  -05 04 16)  6 galaxies

22" at 192, 287, 328, and 383x (this part of the sky was a bit murky, so no optimal.)
NGC 329: Considerably faint 4:1 elongated even surface brightness glow with diffuse edges. PA = 160. The star at the south tip was not seen.
NGC 327: Considerably faint 2:1 elongated glow. Diffuse edges. PA = 0. A star was detected at the north tip at 383x.  Lies 4' SSW of N329.
NGC 325: Very faint 2:1 elongated glow. PA = 90.  Lies 2.1' WNW of N327.
NGC 321: Faint round glow with diffuse edges.  Lies 4.7' WNW of N327 and 2.7' WNW of N325.
MCG-1-3-41: Very faint round diffuse glow.  Lies 7.7' WNW of N329.
MCG-1-3-42 (Mkn 966): Faint 3:2 elongated glow with diffuse edges. PA = 60.  Lies 3.8' NNE of MCG-1-3-41 and 8.7' NNW of N329.



NGC 1129 AWM 7  (02 54 27  +41 34 45)  8 galaxies

22" at 383x - Galaxy hopped at 383x. Nice rich field of stars and galaxies. A total of 14 galaxies were detected in a 7' field. I didn't look for anything beyond that.
NGC 1129: Very bright, round glow with diffuse edges. MCG+7-7-3 is just off the west edge.
MCG+7-7-3: Bright, small compact, high surface brightness glow.
NGC 1130: Bright, 4:3 elongated glow with defined edges. A star is just off the southern tip. PA = 150.  Lies 1.7' WNW from the center of N1129.
MAC 0254+4136: Considerably bright, round glow.
PGC 10962: Very faint, 2:1 elongated glow. PA = 90
MAC 0254+4139: Very faint, 3:2 elongated glow.  PA = 135
IC 265: Considerably bright, round glow with defined edges.  5.5' NE from the center of N1129.
MAC 0254+4137: Extremely faint, very small, round glow.
PGC 11014: Very faint, small, round glow.
MAC 0254+4133, PGC 10970 and PGC 197773 form a nice equidistant line of galaxies. All are faint, small, round glows. Each is less than 10" across. PA = 10 and each is about 45" apart. The line of galaxies lies 2.3' east of N1129.
NGC 1131: Considerably bright, round glow with defined edges.  Lies 1.7' SE from the center of N1129.
MCG+7-7-8: Bright round glow with diffuse edges. Lies 4.4' SE from the center of N1129.
MAC 0255+4131: Very faint, very small glow. A star is just off the SW edge.




VV 175 (01 56 22.6  +05 37 40)
22" (230 and 287x) - Component a, NGC 741, is a very bright round glow with defined edges. Much brighter center. 1.0' across. Component b, NGC 742, is considerably bright round small glow with defined edges. 0.2' across. It lies 0.7' east of NGC 741.
Nearby galaxy, IC 1751 is considerably faint, round small spot with defined edges. Lies 1.3' north of NGC 741. A mag 11.1 star lies 2.3 NE of N741.





VV 176 (01 42 06.4  +07 39 46)
22" (255 and 460x) - Component a, UGC 1191, was seen as a considerably faint, round glow with defined edges. 0.2' across. Component b, MAC 0142+0739, lies just 0.2' SE of 'a'. Appears as a very faint round glow.  VV 177 lies 1' SSW of VV 176

VV 177 (01 42 04.8  +07 38 57)
22" (255 and 460x) - Component a, MCG+1-5-22, was a faint round glow with defined edges. 0.2' across. Component b, MAC 0142+0738, is very faint very small round glow that sits just 0.2' WSW of "a".



VV 187, MCG+0-60-9   (23 34 04.5  +01 35 03)

22" (255 and 383x) - A very faint, round diffuse featureless glow was seen. 0.2' across. A pair of stars (mag 13.7 and 14.6) lies 2.7' little east of due south.



VV 36 (01 24 43.9  +33 26 08)

22" ( 255 and 383x) - NGC 517 seen as a considerably bright 2:1 elongated glow with defined edges. Fairly high surface brightness. Component "b" and "c" was not seen.

Nearby galaxy is 2.7' NNW, NGC 515, seen as a considerably bright 3:2 defined glow. Also fairly high surface brightness. A star is on the NW edge.  PA = 20 ad 0.5' long.



VV 54 (01 48 44.2  +10 30 26)

22" (186, 287, 517 and 862x) - Component a, UGC 1266, fairly bright 3:1 elongated glow with defined edges. Stellar core seen at 862x, but component b was not seen.  PA = 110 and 0.5' long.

Nearby galaxies: IC 162 lies 2.5 WSW appears as a very diffuse round glow. MCG+2-5-39 was a very faint 2:1 elongated glow and lies less than 1' SE of IC 162. UGC 1268 was surprisingly faint and tough to see.  The DSS and PanSTARRS image shows a bright galaxy next to a star, but not in the eyepiece.



VV 84 (22 57 56.9  +26 09 00)

22" (255 and 383x) -
Component a, NGC 7436, was detected as a considerably bright, round glow with a much brighter center. Component b, NGC 7436A, was seen as a considerably faint, 2:1 elongated even surface brightness glow with diffuse edges. 0.5' long. PA = 90.  Attached to "a" on the west edge.

Nearby galaxies: NGC 7435 - Very faint, 2:1 elongated, even surface brightness glow. PA = 30, 0.4' long.  NGC 7433 -
Faint 3:1 elongated even surface brightness glow with defined edges.  Another galaxy, PGC 70122, in the field is a very faint very small round glow. Forms an equilateral triangle with NGC 7436 and NGC 7435.
