Back to Observing Reports Selected Observing Notes from June 5, 2010 observing session at IHOP NELM was about 6.5, but seeing was average. Equipment used:22” f/4 reflector with no tracking 20mm Pentax XW finder eyepiece 12.5 and 9mm Baader Genuine Orthoscopics 10 and 6mm Zeiss ZAO-II Orthoscopics 7.5 Takahashi LE

and
seeing was average 3/5 These notes
are very crude and I was a bit on the lazy side while recording my
observations. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Considerably faint, thin, slightly brighter elongated center and very diffuse tips. Defined edges. PA = 15 and 1.8’ long. A 15.4 mag star lies 0.7’ SSE from the center. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Considerably faint, thin glow with diffuse edges. No central brightening. PA = 165 and 1.5’ long. Simbad and NED lists it as NGC 4310 instead. Now need to do some research. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – bright, very elongated glow with well-defined edges. Brighter round center. Higher than average surface brightness. PA = 45 and 1.6’ long |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – bright thin glow with well-defined edges and brighter elongated center. PA = 60 and 1.7’ long. Nearby galaxy lying 3.2’ WSW, CGCG 159-107, is a considerably bright glow with diffuse edges and brighter round center. 0.5’ across. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Bright small thin glow with well-defined edges, much brighter center. PA = 135 and 1.2’ long. A 12.8 mag star lies 2.9’ NW. A 14th mag star lies 1.2’ due south. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Very bright thick patch with a much brighter very elongated center with a slight hook on the NE end. Well-defined edges. PA = 45 and 2.0’ long and 0.5’ wide. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Faint, thin ghostly glow with no central brightening. PA = 150 and 1.4’ long. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Considerably bright, much brighter slightly elongated center. Diffuse edges and tips. PA = 0 and 2.4’ long. A blazing mag 8.2 star lies 3.2 ESE. |
22” at 185, 255 and 383x – Very faint, thin ghostly glow. Even surface brightness with no central brightening. PA = 60 and 1.7’ long. |
22” at 255, 306 and 383x – Considerably faint thin glow with defined edges Brighter elongated center. PA = 150 and 1.4’ long. A parallel pair of 14th magnitude stars lies 0.8’ to the west. |
22” at 185, 255, 306 and 383x – Considerably faint, very thin and long glow with defined edges. Brighter slightly elongated center. A 12.4 mag star lies 1.3’ SE from the center. PA = 60 and 3.1’ long. |
